Mr. Pizana
1.How long have you been at Voris and how long have you been a teacher?
I started teaching at Voris in August of 1997, Music K-5. I taught private music lessons for 12 years before I became a public school teacher.
2.Tell us about your family.
I am married and we have four children two girls and two boys, aged 24, 22, 20 and 18. I open enrolled all my children to go to school here at Voris. All of my children attended Akron Public Schools during their Elementary School and Middle School years. My two oldest children graduated from Firestone High School, my third child graduated from Akron Early College. My youngest child is in her Senior year of High school.
3.Why did you decide to become a teacher?
I come from a family of teachers. My mom, aunts, cousins, sibling and friends have been in the Education profession. It was my chance to give back to the younger generation and the communities in which I lived in. I want to advocate and create better patrons of the Arts. People who support, love, and appreciate artists whether its Music, Art, or Dance.
4.What are some of your hobbies/interests?
I enjoy playing music, learning new instruments, biking, and hiking. I really enjoy traveling and exploring new places where their culture is surrounded by music and other art forms. i'm always hopeful to bring back new ideas from other cultures in to the classroom. I want to create a musical window so our children can peek into and find a new world they have never seen. I also love bringing back old American music traditions that were created many generations ago. Its my way of holding on to our American identity but yet open our musical horizons as we walk into our ever changing society.
